    Client Profile

    Name: Anil

    Occupation: Self-employed IT contractor

Insurance Type: Zurich 3-in-1 Active Cover (Trauma Insurance with multiple claim capability)

    Initial Sum Insured: AUD $1,000,000

    Claim Amounts Paid:

    • AUD $50,000 for cardiac condition
    • AUD $200,000 for cancer diagnosis
    • Remaining insured benefit available: AUD $750,000

    Case Background

As a self-employed IT engineer, Anil understood the financial risks of facing a major illness without employer sick leave or income protection. To safeguard against this, he chose the Zurich 3-in-1 Active Cover — a trauma insurance solution designed for those seeking not only income support during critical health events but also help with out-of-pocket medical costs.

This policy allows for multiple claims across different health events, making it ideal for long-term protection.

    Medical Evidence

First Claim – Cardiac Event. Three years after taking out the policy, Anil was diagnosed with a serious heart condition and underwent surgery to implant a permanent cardiac defibrillator. According to the policy’s Heart and Artery Table – Category E, this procedure qualified as a defined trauma event.

    • Benefit Paid: AUD $50,000 (5% of the original sum insured)
    • Remaining cover after payout: AUD $950,000

Second Claim – Cancer DiagnosisTwo years later, Anil was diagnosed with cancer. This met the definition under the Cancer Table – Category D in his Zurich 3-in-1 Active Cover policy.

    • Benefit Paid: AUD $200,000 (20% of remaining cover)
    • Remaining cover after payout: AUD $750,000

Medical reports confirmed the cancer type and stage were consistent with the clinical definition required under the policy. Anil responded well to treatment and has a positive recovery outlook.

    Medical Assessment

Zurich assessed both claims based on the defined medical conditions in the policy:

    • The cardiac defibrillator implantation was clearly listed as a Category E trauma event.
    • The cancer diagnosis met Category D criteria.
    • The two events were medically unrelated, qualifying as separate trauma events under the multi-claim feature.

The policy also allows for future claims if Anil’s cancer progresses or if unrelated health events occur, or even terminal illness or death.

    Claim Resolution

With the support of the Zurich 3-in-1 Active Cover, Anil successfully claimed a total of $250,000 across two unrelated medical events. He still holds $750,000 in remaining trauma cover for future claims if needed.

These funds allowed Anil to manage treatment costs, cover personal leave, and focus on recovery without financial pressure.

    Key Insights

    • Zurich 3-in-1 Active Cover is designed for flexibility, offering multiple payouts for separate qualifying health events.
    • Early-stage claims, such as for cardiac procedures, do not void future benefit eligibility.
    • Cancer and heart-related claims are some of the most common trauma events — and are both claimable under this product.
    • Remaining trauma benefit stays in place, giving policyholders continued protection into the future.
