There are few places around the world that do café culture like us Australians. Inventor of the flat white, perfector of the brunch, and owner of all things avocado on toast, Australian cafés do it like few others.
Now, Australia’s great cafés are set to welcome one more into its ranks, with the opening of Vogue Café in Sydney this May. In the heart of Sydney’s picturesque Darling Harbour, the new Vogue-branded café will call the Ribbon Building home, rubbing shoulders with other Sydney landmarks including W Sydney, IMAX Theatre, and the International Convention Centre.
A fusion of fashion and food, the new Vogue Café will occupy two levels in the contemporary building. Combining a sprawling dining area with a future-forward cocktail bar, the new space is designed to honour Sydney’s vibrant dining scene, as well as Vogue’s contemporary and fashionable edge.
Inside, the interior design is led by the award-winning interior architect Callie Van Der Merwe, and Roberto Zambri from COOOP. The décor pays homage to the storied history of Vogue through a curated set of iconic images drawn from the expansive Vogue Australia archive.
Imagery includes some of our most memorable shoots with Australian stars. From Nicole Kidman and Cate Blanchett photographed by Will Davidson, Margot Robbie photographed by Mario Sorrenti, and Adut Akech photographed by Josh Olins.
The extensive Vogue Café menu has been carefully curated by acclaimed chef Zachary Ng, who also leads the hatted project Restaurant Ka in Darlinghurst. Centred around modern Australian cuisine, Ng’s menu places particular emphasis on Australia’s cornucopia of seasonal and sustainably sourced produce.
Some of the standout dishes include an extravagant seafood platter, with xo butter lobster, steamed king salmon alongside prawn emulsion, and an applewood-smoked Wagyu steak burger with Asian slaw. For cocktails the rotating list will highlight Australian botanicals and liquors produced by renowned Australian distilleries.
Vogue Café is slated to open this week.
